Adjusting to Time Zone Changes
Travelling across different time zones can disturb your body clock and cause jet lag. This phenomenon, however, does not occur due to the amount of travel time it takes to get to your destination but instead by the distance between the various time zones that you have to travel through during your trip. Your body’s natural rhythm is unsettled by this, so you end up feeling disoriented and irritable.
So that you can enjoy your trip more, you need to make sure that you would be able to adjust to these time zone changes quickly and efficiently. Make a switch to the new time zone before you even leave by resetting your watch and going about your business as if you are already in the time zone of your destination. If it is night in your destination, be sure to sleep during the flight or stay awake if it is day so that your body can begin to get used to the new time. Avoid giving in to the urge to take a nap once you arrive. Instead, go outdoors and wander around so you can stay awake since daylight can help to reset your body’s internal clock. When it is time to go to bed at local time, then do so even if you are not yet sleepy. You can take melatonin in order to help you go to sleep. Finally, be sure that you take your meals at the right local times so that your body can start to function as normally as possible in the soonest time.
